Miriam was pulling her long, black hair, screaming and running in place!Raymond, Malcolm and some of the other boys that we played Football with were piled atop of somebody, beating them to a pulp! Things got really weird when, out of the corner of my eye, I saw JoJo doubled over, clutching his stomach! L.B. was crouched down,rocking and screaming to the top of his lungs, begging someone to "Go get help! Go get Jazzy!" Nobody could respond because, everyone needed attention! You couldn't tell who needed it most!"Lord You Know, and So, Does Myrtle" Draws a picture of what life in the 'Dirty South' truly entails. The storyline is a flow of various events that make up a gumbo of people that impacts the mindset and life circumstances of one another in a soulful, adventurous and spiritual way.Monia's experience of growing up in the 'Projects' of New Roads, Louisiana gave way to many questions. "Why all of the heartache from losing so many loved ones to the violent deaths that happened in 'The Hood'? "Why was there so much betrayal among family and friends in 'The Hood'?" "Who is this lady Jazzy?" "What in the world was going to happen to 'Ole Dude'?"If she could just get to her tree! 'Myrtle' has held Monia in her strong arms (limbs) when she cried, and let her have as many tantrums as she wanted to while perched up in that Crepe! Myrtle has been privy to a lot of the questions of Monia's heart, as well as Monia's secrets....Now; if she could just get some answers while up there with Myrtle!The mood of a Louisianian is very colorful across the board! They're either, jolly at heart, and always ready to party, cut up and have a high time with family and friends...or; there's that group that gets together over a big pot of Gumbo, Crawfish, and cases of beer and booze! Now, that last group mentioned will always have that Uncle Buck or a Leroy in the family. That cat is going to always get a little bit drunk; Just a lil bit drunk. But, you can take it to the Bank that there's going to be a fight, a cussing out, or a big group of Line dancing is going to break out! Drunk Unc is going to sober up just enough to get on the dance floor, and show everybody "his version" of how its really supposed to be done! It was said to me about the folks in the hood: "You know what I found out about the people in Louisiana? All they do is eat, and drink and Cuss!I couldn't do anything but laugh, and partially agree. BUT! In my defense, and all of the other God fearing souls in Louisiana's defense; I had to let them know, "There is a remnant that has not bowed down to the dictates of the opinions and actions of this person's observation of the people of Louisiana that carry on the aforementioned way.Monia is on a quest to find out why it seems; the ferocious mosquitoes, and the steamy hot days,and nights of New Roads, Louisiana made the people act out to one extreme, for the Good;or, to the other extreme for the Worst! The fragrant Magnolias and the beautiful Crepes had witnessed to many of sad tales in the 'Dirty South'. If they could speak, I wonder what Monia would even do with the Truth....? Read more
